Presenting CPD to the Herts and Bucks 2020-2021 NQT cohort

Posted on: 20/05/2021

On Friday 14th May, Kerry Hegarty (English teacher at St Clement Danes) and I were lucky enough to be invited to the grand setting of Hunton Park to deliver CPD to 50 of the Herts and Bucks 2020-2021 NQT cohort.  Kerry and I have long been advocates of ‘The Active Classroom’ and were eager to share tips with a group of enthusiastic early career teachers.

Given the restrictions the last year has placed on us within the classroom, it was great to be back delivering face to face and to be able to share the classroom based practice we are passionate about.  NQTs were given a ‘whistle-stop tour’ of pedagogy that encourages students to take an active part in their learning including: the silent debate, ambassadors, speed dating, guess who and questioning strategies.

Huge thanks to Adam Baker at Herts and Bucks TSA  for inviting us and to Paula Moore for organising. Other teachers delivering on the day included Emma Keys (Westfield Academy), Lewis Froy (Parmiter’s School) and Andy Nobel (Free Reach School). Having overheard colleagues delivering their own sessions, I wanted to stay the day!
